The Arc de Triomphe is one of the most famous and the most monumental of all triumphal arches in Paris. It was built between 1806 and 1836.

The Arc de Triomphe is situated at the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle at the western end of Champs-Élysées.

The Arc is decorated with traditional 19th century scupltures. It stands there in honor of those who fought for France during the Napoleonic Wars.

It contains sculptures by James Pradier, Antoine Etex and Jean-Pierre Cortot but the most celebrated sculpture is La Marseillaise by Francois Rude.
