St. Peter's Basilica is the most renowned work of Renaissance architecture and one of the largest churches in the world. Designed by Bramante, Michelangelo, Madeno and Bernini the basilica is considered one of the holiest Catholic shrines. Here lies the tomb of St. Peter as well as numerous other Popes. The Pope pronounces his Easter speech in St Peter's Basilica followed by the Easter wishes in 65 languages.

St. Peter's Basilica is home to the Michelangelo's statue of Pieta - the only one Michelangelo ever signed. Another interesting artifact is the statue of Saint Peter holding the keys of heaven. His right toes are worn down by centuries of pilgrims who have traditionally touched his right foot.
