Spanish steps is a monumental stairway of 135 steps designed by architects Francesco de Sanctis and Alessandro Specchi. They connect Square Piazza di Spagna with a square at church Trinità dei Monti.
At the foundation of the spanish steps is "Fountain of the Ugly Boat". It was ordered by Pope Urban VII. He was impressed by a broken boat dragged here with a flood caused by rising waters of the Tiber river. Nowadays the stairs host a small flower market and are crowded with people.
